WELCOME TO LAURALYNN HOUSE

LauraLynn Ireland's First Children's Hospice opened in September 2011 thanks to the kindness & generosity of our wonderful supporters!

Ireland's First Children's Hospice

In Ireland there are over 1,400 children with life limiting conditions. Aside from the care we provide, there is a limited pediatric palliative care programme available for families. Already since September, LauraLynn House has cared for 104 families. However as we have no state funding, continued support from our community and corporate fundraisers is vital!

The Hospice or House "home away from home" as Jane McKenna prefers to call it, is about respite for the family as a whole. It is about putting:

'Life into a child's day, not days into a child's life'.

For parents, it will give that much needed break - often as simple as a decent night's sleep. It will also support healthy siblings, who are very much left out, when a sick child needs 24 hour care. It will offer families a choice when the end comes and ongoing support for the family when the child has passed on, for as long as they choose, which is hugely important, as life can never be the same again. Home Care is also a huge part of the service, as is linking with other organisations working in similar areas.

GET IN TOUCH

It has been a long and, sometimes, challenging process to get this far but the unstinting help of so many people from every walk of life has been truly uplifting.

I intend to take some time out from fundraising - to rest a little and reflect on how I might contribute to LauraLynn House in the future.

Please contact the Fundraising Team in relation to any fundraising issues fundraising@lauralynn.ie or call us on 01-2893151.

OBJECTIVES

  • Practical and emotional support to those caring for a sick child.
  • Medical care and Emergency care.
  • Respite care, not only for the sick child, but for the family and siblings, offering siblings support groups and activities
  • Encourage families to build up a "buddy" support system.
  • Giving families choices:
To stay and share the care of their child
Be there as a family, or leave the child in Hospice care and take a break away, knowing their child will have the same loving care as they themselves give.
Spend more time with the other children in the family, who are often left out and choice when the end sadly comes.
  • Strive to be as flexible as possible to meet each family's needs.
  • Offer Palliative care as necessary, and continued support as needed following a child's death.
