This September, LauraLynn joins the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (AIIHPC) in marking the 12th annual Palliative Care Week from the 7th to 13th September. The campaign is dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of palliative care and its benefits across the island of Ireland.

The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Palliative Care: Living for Today, Planning for Tomorrow.’ It’s an important reminder that palliative care is not just about end-of-life support, it’s about enhancing quality of life, supporting families, and helping people live well while managing life-limiting conditions.

The campaign encourages conversations around planning for the future while embracing the present and aims to dispel common misconceptions that may prevent people from seeking the care they need.

At LauraLynn, Ireland’s only Children’s Hospice, this theme resonates deeply with our mission to provide a Community of Care that delivers evidence-based, personalised services to children with palliative care needs.

LauraLynn’s Model of Care is built around five key pillars:

  • Direct Care
  • Family Support
  • Symptom Management
  • End-of-Life Care
  • Bereavement Support.

This framework ensures that the right child receives the right care, at the right time, in the right place, by the right team. We want to provide high-quality, child and family-led care that is flexible, planned, and person-centred, taking into account each child’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.

Services are offered in our hospice in Leopardstown, in hospitals, in the community, and in the family home, always free of charge.

Palliative Care Week is an opportunity to celebrate the work being done across Ireland to support individuals and families facing serious illness. It’s also a chance to highlight the importance of early access to palliative care, which can significantly improve quality of life and provide essential emotional and practical support.

If you or someone you know could benefit from children’s palliative care services, LauraLynn is here to help. Our team is available to guide families through their journey, offering compassionate care and support every step of the way. Learn more about our services and our referral process

Last year’s theme for Palliative Care Week was ‘You, Me and Palliative Care’ and focused on importance of palliative care in creating a network of care and support.
