We warmly welcome today’s announcement, which marks an important and positive milestone for LauraLynn and is a welcome recognition of the essential services we provide to children and families across Ireland.
The redesignation of LauraLynn to Section 38 status from 2027 will provide a more secure and sustainable foundation for the day-to-day delivery of our existing children's hospice and palliative care services.
The continued generosity of our donors and supporters will remain hugely important, enabling LauraLynn to enhance care, family experiences and further develop our services so that all children and families can access the care and support they need.
Following the move to sustainable State funding for adult hospices, this development recognises that children with palliative care needs and their families deserve that same security. It is an important step towards an Ireland where hospice and palliative care are recognised and sustainably supported as essential healthcare services throughout life.
On hearing the announcement, CEO, Kerry McLaverty says:
“This is a hugely significant milestone for LauraLynn, for children and families, and for children's palliative care in Ireland. For us, this is about much more than funding. Following the move to sustainable State funding for adult hospices, this development recognises that children with palliative care needs and their families deserve that same security.”
“This moment has been many years in the making, and I want to acknowledge the families, staff, volunteers, supporters, Board members and partners whose commitment has helped bring us to this point.”
“We are also deeply grateful to the donors and communities who have stood alongside LauraLynn throughout our journey. Their generosity will continue to play a vital role in helping us enhance care and family experiences, invest in innovation, research and education, and develop our services so that more children and families can access the care and support they need.”
